Places of Interest
York has something of interest for all visitors, architecture, museums, theatres, racing and shopping.
The walled city, dominated by the minster, has many attractions. You can take a time journey through York's viking past and explore the roman remains in the museum gardens or wander along the peaceful river front or take a boat trip to Bishopthorpe and see the archbishop's palace.
A walk in the medieval city walls reveals fascinating roof scapes and a climb to the top of the minster, one of europe's finest cathedrals, provides extensive views of the countryside stretching to the North York Moors and the Wolds.
Shopping in York's car free centre is a fascinating experience, Stonegate, Goodramgate, Petergate, all have shops full of interesting goods, antiques, art, craft and fashion.
Whenever you feel the need for refreshment you can be sure you will never be far from a cafe, restaurant or pub.
For a night on the town there are two theatres, multi-screen cinemas together with a number of restaurants and night clubs that provide a wealth of entertainment throughout the year.
